Why Lend A Hand, Anyway?

July 12, 2013

Many events and circumstances arise that beckon us to help people and we should not hesitate to reach out whenever possible.  Sadly, the response to offer support often falters when faced with the inconvenience of a situation or some self-inhibition.  Instead of making excuses or pointing fingers we should seek well-founded mutual solutions.

Why lend a hand, anyway?  Not because it feels good or that we too might need help someday or even because it seems like the right thing to do.  We ought to help someone simply because he or she needs help.  Everyone deserves the dignity of being human, always and especially during a time of need; to be valued as a person regardless of the conditions or challenges or status in society.

This subtle difference in viewpoint yields significant difference in thinking and action.  Only then can we really make our world a better place.

I so do agree George. I think we are hardwired to want to help in the way you describe, and then so many external influences impact, or override what should be quite a natural instinct. Everyone is worthy and important … and we all need each other so much. Such a wonderful reminder. Thank you! ~ RL

Wonderful message and well written, George, and I agree with you, as well! I just wish that we all could come together and accept each other for who we are. In a perfect world, I suppose, but we can keep wishing and praying, anyway! Have a wonderful weekend! 🙂

“We ought to help someone simply because he or she needs help.”

    This says it all, George.

I agree, George , and if every one would think that way , the world would be a much more better place.

    Great thoughts, my friend! 😀

It is always good to be able to lend out our hands for those at “arm’s length”.

There may be many times that we might not be able to offer any help even if we wanted to, we can always pray that someone else is able to lend out their hands for them.

Thank you for sharing! Cheers~ 😀

Thanks, Roxie! I agree, we simply need to widen our circles of understanding to see that, despite differences, we are all interconnected and belong in the same world.
