When You’re Ready

June 5, 2012

you
hiding in a tomb
wailing in the dark
come out

you
tripping in a maze
cursing every fall
stand up and start again

   don’t you know
   people need people
   touch of a steady hand
   people need people
   someone who believes you can
stand on your own when you’re ready
take time to cry it’s alright
turn the corner when you’re ready
only time will tell what lies ahead
take my hand and start again
turn the corner when you’re ready

rise above the damned
leave this hell tonight
no more sorrow, no more mourning
death is strong life is stronger
stronger than the dark open your heart

   don’t you know
   people need people
   touch of a steady hand
   people need people
   someone who believes you can
stand on your own when you’re ready
take time to cry it’s alright
turn the corner when you’re ready
only time will tell what lies ahead
take my hand and start again
turn the corner when you’re ready

don’t turn back now you’re doing well
don’t turn back head for the light
don’t turn back now you’re doing well
don’t turn back follow the light

truth
echoes ever strange
can’t erase what’s done
move on

I feel a very strong sense of pulse and rhythm in this. It chugs along nicely, and positively too. 🙂

Thanks, Ben! It’s definitely laid out with a driving beat and strong melodic vocals to deliver the urgency for hope. Glad you liked it!

wow George i got goose bumps reading the lyrics,so motivating ..loved it…
“stand on your own when you’re ready
take time to cry it’s alright”
    what a powerful song

Thanks, Soma! Sometimes the best thing to do is to be patient with someone and just be there. Other times, of course, a swift kick in the rump doesn’t hurt!

Either way, we all need a helping hand now and then and there’s nothing wrong with seeking/giving help. That’s ultimately the point of this music…and raising goose bumps! 🙂

ah…you’ve such a positive mantra to your writing, I’m always in awe of such spirits ~

Thanks, Angela! I’m usually an optimist but I’ve certainly seen moments in time that I would not care to relive. I’ve learned though that even in the darkest places some kind of light still shines if we are simply willing to open our eyes. In fact, it seems that in total darkness is where light etches the most profound truths in our souls.

Yet trust is not always easy! But from these experiences I’ve found reasons for hope, even when I have no idea or understanding of what’s going on!

beautifully expressed/explained, George. It is true, too, the light which can prevail. In my younger days, I used to believe that I had to live in darkness in order to create. No longer believing this, but do know my best ‘love’ poetry is composed right after the bonfire has become ash ~

      • June 10, 2012 12:49 am

I used to feel the same way, Angela. Emotionally, the brighter days are much nicer, but the darker days certainly seem to produce much more!

    lifting…..nicely expressed

Reminded me of the famous Pink Floyd Hey you….maybe not…. another great song on its way to becoming my favorite 🙂

That’s quite a reminder and an awesome comparison! Pink Floyd happens to be one of my favorites, too. In fact, I just watched the making of Dark Side of the Moon the other day, again. Delighted that you like it so much and happy to share it! 🙂

Do you have this set to music? I would love to listen to this over and over again.

I don’t know why, but it sounds very Depeche Mode in my head.

The basic melody is set but I have not finished the arrangement yet. Depeche Mode is an interesting reference…I need to think about that!

There is depth and awareness in the lesser known Depeche Mode lyrics that I only discovered recently. Check out Waiting for the night and It’s only When I lose myself.

I hear what you mean in these songs. Seems that part often gets lost in the commercial side of the biz but that is also an inroad to catching listener’s attention. Thanks for pointing these out!
